Whether you are visiting Singapore for business or leisure, knowing which terminal your flight uses at Changi Airport can save you time and stress. This changi airport terminal guide covers all four operating terminals, the Jewel Changi complex, inter-terminal transfers, pickup and drop-off points, and practical tips for arranging a smooth chauffeur transfer in 2026. If you are a first-time visitor, pair this guide with our changi airport arrival guide (/blog/changi-airport-arrival-guide) for a complete walkthrough from landing to hotel.
Why Your Terminal Matters
Changi Airport handles over 65 million passengers annually across four terminals, with a fifth under construction. Each terminal serves different airlines, has its own facilities, and — most importantly for ground transport — has designated pickup and drop-off locations. Knowing your terminal in advance lets you coordinate pickups precisely, avoid confusion on arrival, and take advantage of terminal-specific amenities like Jewel Changi.
Your airline and route determine your terminal. Always confirm your terminal before travelling by checking your boarding pass, the airline's website, or the Changi Airport flight information page. Terminal assignments can change, so verify even if you have flown the same route before.
Terminal 1: International Hub and Jewel Gateway
Terminal 1 is Changi's original terminal, extensively renovated and modernised over the years. It currently houses 28 airlines across Concourses C and D, making it the terminal with the highest number of carriers.
Key airlines at Terminal 1:
- Qantas (flights to Australia)
- Japan Airlines (flights to Japan)
- Qatar Airways (flights to Middle East and Europe)
- Air France (flights to Paris and beyond)
- KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (flights to Amsterdam)
- Turkish Airlines (flights to Istanbul and connecting destinations)
- China Airlines (flights to Taipei)
- Jetstar Asia (regional low-cost flights)
- Scoot (Singapore Airlines' low-cost carrier for selected routes)
Terminal 1 is directly connected to Jewel Changi Airport, which makes it the most convenient terminal if you want to explore Jewel's attractions before or after your flight. The connection is via a pedestrian link bridge on Level 1 — you can walk from T1's arrivals hall to Jewel in under 3 minutes.
Pickup point at T1: Private car and chauffeur pickups are located at the Arrival Hall, Level 1. REI Rental chauffeurs meet guests at the arrivals exit near Door 3, holding a name board with your name. From there, it is a short walk to the nearby car park where your vehicle — whether a Mercedes S-Class (/fleet/mercedes-s-class) for executive travel or a Toyota Alphard (/fleet/toyota-alphard) for family transfers — is waiting.
Terminal 2: Singapore Airlines Hub
Terminal 2 serves as the primary hub for Singapore Airlines on many regional routes, along with several Star Alliance partners. The terminal completed a major expansion and renovation in late 2023, adding over 21,000 square metres of space with modernised immigration halls, expanded retail areas, and improved passenger flow.
Key airlines at Terminal 2:
- Singapore Airlines (most regional Southeast Asian routes)
- Air India (flights to Indian cities)
- Lufthansa (flights to Frankfurt and Munich)
- SWISS (flights to Zurich)
- United Airlines (flights to US destinations)
- Etihad Airways (flights to Abu Dhabi)
- Malaysia Airlines (flights to Kuala Lumpur and Malaysian cities)
- Philippine Airlines (flights to Manila)
- Cebu Pacific (flights to Philippines)
Terminal 2 is connected to Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 via the free Skytrain automated people mover, and to Jewel Changi via a link bridge from the Departure Hall — roughly a 5 to 10-minute walk.
Pickup point at T2: Chauffeur and private car pickups are at the Arrival Hall, Level 1, near Door 5. Our airport arrival service (/services/airport-arrival) includes real-time flight tracking, so your REI Rental chauffeur adjusts automatically if your flight arrives early or late — no wasted waiting time for you or the driver.
Terminal 3: Long-Haul and Flagship Carrier Base
Terminal 3 handles many of Changi's intercontinental flights and is the base for Singapore Airlines' long-haul operations, including A380 superjumbo services. If you are flying from Europe, the Middle East, Oceania, or North America on a full-service carrier, there is a strong chance you will arrive at T3.
Key airlines at Terminal 3:
- Singapore Airlines (long-haul routes to Europe, USA, Japan, Australia)
- Emirates (flights to Dubai and connections)
- British Airways (flights to London)
- Cathay Pacific (flights to Hong Kong, selected routes)
- Korean Air (flights to Seoul, selected routes)
- Garuda Indonesia (flights to Jakarta and Indonesian cities)
- Vietnam Airlines (flights to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City)
Terminal 3 is Changi's largest terminal by floor area. Within the transit area, it features a butterfly garden, a rooftop pool, extensive duty-free shopping, and free movie theatres. For arriving passengers, the immigration hall uses both automated e-gates and staffed counters. Peak arrival times at T3 are early morning (5:00 to 8:00), when overnight flights from Europe and the Middle East land.
Pickup point at T3: Private car pickups are at the Arrival Hall, Level 1, near Door 4 (Doors 1-5 zone). If you have booked a premium changi airport transfer with REI Rental, your chauffeur will be waiting at the arrivals exit with a name board and will assist with all luggage before walking you to the vehicle.
Terminal 3 connects to Jewel via a link bridge from the Departure Hall level — about a 5 to 10-minute walk, the same as from Terminal 2.
Terminal 4: Budget Carrier Terminal
Terminal 4 is Changi's newest and most automated terminal, located separately from Terminals 1-3. It operates with a high degree of self-service technology, including automated check-in kiosks, automated bag drop, and facial recognition immigration gates. T4 handles primarily budget and regional carriers.
Key airlines at Terminal 4:
- AirAsia (flights to Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and regional destinations)
- AirAsia X (long-haul low-cost flights)
- HK Express (flights to Hong Kong)
- VietJet Air (flights to Vietnam)
- Juneyao Airlines (flights to Chinese cities)
- Spring Airlines (flights to Chinese cities)
- T'way Air (flights to Seoul)
Important note about Terminal 4: T4 is not connected to Terminals 1-3 by the Skytrain. Instead, a free shuttle bus runs between T4 and the other terminals. The bus journey takes approximately 10 to 18 minutes depending on the route. If you need to transit between T4 and another terminal, or if you want to visit Jewel from T4, allow an extra 15-20 minutes for the shuttle bus transfer.
Pickup point at T4: Chauffeur pickups are at the Arrival Hall, Level 1, at the main exit. The T4 pickup area is more compact than the other terminals, making it straightforward to locate your driver.
Jewel Changi Airport: More Than a Transit Stop
Jewel Changi is a 10-storey complex connecting to Terminal 1, accessible from Terminals 2 and 3 via link bridges, and reachable from Terminal 4 by shuttle bus. It is not a terminal — no flights depart from or arrive at Jewel — but it has become one of Singapore's most popular attractions in its own right.
Key Jewel highlights:
- Rain Vortex — the world's tallest indoor waterfall at 40 metres, cascading from the centre of the glass dome roof
- Shiseido Forest Valley — a five-storey indoor garden with over 900 trees and 60,000 shrubs from around the world, open 24 hours
- Canopy Park — a 14,000 square-metre rooftop garden featuring walking nets, hedge mazes, mirror mazes, and the Mastercard Canopy Bridge suspended 23 metres above ground
- Over 280 retail stores including Singapore's first in-airport Apple Store and the first permanent Pokemon Centre in Southeast Asia
- More than 100 dining options ranging from hawker-style food courts to premium restaurants
How to reach Jewel from each terminal:
- From T1: Direct pedestrian link, under 3 minutes walk
- From T2: Walk via link bridge from Departure Hall, 5-10 minutes
- From T3: Walk via link bridge from Departure Hall, 5-10 minutes
- From T4: Free shuttle bus to T1 or T3, then walk to Jewel. Allow 15-25 minutes total
If you are transiting through Changi with a layover of 3 hours or more, Jewel is an excellent way to spend your time. For longer layovers of 6 or more hours, consider booking an hourly disposal service (/services/disposal) to explore Singapore's highlights — Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay (/airport-transfer/marina-bay), or Orchard Road (/airport-transfer/orchard) — before returning to the airport.
Transferring Between Terminals
Changi offers three free methods for moving between terminals.
Skytrain. The automated Skytrain connects Terminals 1, 2, and 3. Trains run every 3 to 6 minutes from 5:00 to 02:30 daily, with a journey time of 1 to 3 minutes between each terminal. The Skytrain is the fastest and most convenient option for transfers between T1, T2, and T3. Skytrain stations are well-signposted within each terminal.
Shuttle bus. A free shuttle bus service operates 24 hours and connects all four terminals plus Jewel. From 6:00 to midnight, a direct T4-to-Jewel shuttle runs frequently. From 01:00 to 06:00, a loop bus (T4-T3-T1-T4) provides overnight coverage. The shuttle is the only public transit option to and from Terminal 4.
Walking. Terminals 1, 2, and 3 are physically interconnected, and it is possible to walk between them — though the distances are significant. Walking from T1 to T3 takes roughly 15-20 minutes. For speed and convenience, the Skytrain is preferred.
If your connecting flight departs from a different terminal than your arrival, allow at least 15 minutes for the transfer via Skytrain (T1/T2/T3) or 25 minutes via shuttle bus (involving T4). During peak hours, add an extra buffer.
Terminal 5: What to Expect
Construction of Terminal 5 began in May 2025, with completion targeted for the mid-2030s. When operational, T5 will add capacity for approximately 50 million passengers annually, bringing Changi's total capacity to roughly 140 million. T5 will be connected to Terminal 2 via underground tunnels, with an automated transit system providing a 4-minute journey between the two terminals.
For travellers in 2026, T5 does not affect your plans. All flights continue to operate from Terminals 1 through 4. However, an exhibition called T5 In the Making runs at Terminal 3's Arrival Hall through March 2026, offering a preview of the upcoming terminal's design and innovations — worth a visit if you have time after landing.
Pickup and Drop-Off Points Summary
Here is a quick reference for all changi airport pickup locations used by private car and chauffeur services:
- T1: Arrival Hall, Level 1, Door 3 area
- T2: Arrival Hall, Level 1, Door 5 area
- T3: Arrival Hall, Level 1, Door 4 area (Doors 1-5)
- T4: Arrival Hall, Level 1, Main Exit
For departures, your chauffeur drops you at the Departure Hall kerb of the correct terminal. REI Rental's airport departure service (/services/airport-departure) ensures you are delivered to the right terminal entrance based on your airline and flight details.
An important regulation: vehicles are not permitted to park or wait at the Arrival or Departure kerbside. Professional chauffeur services like REI Rental use real-time flight tracking to time the arrival precisely, so the vehicle is ready when you emerge from customs — without circling the airport or being fined for waiting.
Choosing the Right Vehicle for Your Airport Transfer
The right vehicle depends on your group size, luggage volume, and the nature of your trip. Here is how REI Rental's fleet matches different needs.
Solo or couple, business travel: The Mercedes E-Class (/fleet/mercedes-e-class) offers a refined sedan experience with ample boot space for two large suitcases. Ideal for corporate travellers heading to meetings in the CBD or Changi Business Park (/airport-transfer/changi-business-park).
Solo or couple, luxury travel: The Mercedes S-Class (/fleet/mercedes-s-class) is the flagship sedan — extended wheelbase, rear-seat comfort, and the prestige expected by VIP guests arriving at top hotels like The Ritz-Carlton (/hotels/ritz-carlton) or Conrad (/hotels/conrad).
Family or small group (3-4 passengers): The Toyota Alphard (/fleet/toyota-alphard) is the preferred choice. This premium MPV offers spacious seating, slide-out ottoman seats in the rear, and luggage capacity for 3-4 large suitcases. Families with children consistently rate the Alphard as the most comfortable airport transfer vehicle.
Larger group (5-6 passengers): The Mercedes V-Class (/fleet/mercedes-v-class) seats up to six passengers in its flexible cabin configuration, with dedicated luggage space for multiple suitcases. Perfect for corporate delegations or extended families arriving together.
Eco-conscious travellers: The Mercedes EQS (/fleet/mercedes-eqs) delivers S-Class luxury with zero emissions. The fully electric sedan has a range exceeding 600 kilometres — far more than any Singapore transfer requires — and offers an exceptionally quiet, smooth ride.

Tips for a Smooth Changi Airport Transfer
Confirm your terminal before booking. Airlines occasionally reassign terminals. Check your boarding pass and the Changi Airport website 24 hours before travel.
Share your flight details when booking. REI Rental tracks your flight in real-time. If your flight is delayed, your chauffeur adjusts the pickup time automatically at no extra charge. This saves you from the stress of calling to update your driver while still in the air.
Allow time for immigration and baggage. On average, budget 20-30 minutes from touchdown to emerging in the arrivals hall. For early morning arrivals (5-8am) when multiple long-haul flights land simultaneously, allow up to 45 minutes. Your chauffeur will be tracking your flight and will be ready when you clear customs — not before, not after.
Know your journey time. From Changi Airport, most destinations in Singapore are 20-45 minutes by car under normal traffic conditions. Marina Bay and the CBD are 20-30 minutes. Orchard Road is 25-35 minutes. Sentosa is 30-45 minutes. Jurong (/airport-transfer/jurong) in western Singapore is 35-45 minutes. During peak hours (7:30-9:30am and 5:30-8pm), add 15-20 minutes.
